Quilt Preparation Quilt tops should have all loose threads cut from both front and back. Identify the top side of the quilt, if important. The quilt top, backing, and batting should be separate and pressed with no heavy wrinkles. Backing and batting, if provided, must be 6" larger than quilt top on both length and width. Backing fabric should be chosen with thread color choice in mind as matching bobbin thread to top color will be more pleasing on a machine quilted project. A print will also make a more attractive backing.
Lay your quilt out and take a measurement of the middle of the quilt horizontally. Compare this measurement to the top and bottom measurements. Do the same vertically comparing with the sides. If there is more than a 1-1/2" difference, it is possible the quilt will have tucks when quilted. You may wish to consider reapplying borders if they will be very wavy. Be sure to notify me of any problem areas like wavy borders or potential volcanoes before quilting so they can be minimized as much as possible.
